Welcome to the All Cars Online Miles per Gallon (MPG) Calculator. This handy tool makes those simple calculations easier by just entering a couple of figures.
To calculate your MPG, it is advisable to start by completely filling your fuel tank then reset the trip computer. When you come to fill up your tank again
make a note of the mileage on the trip computer and the litres taken to fill up. Then input those figures into the boxes below to calculate your MPG.
- Always try to use the vehicle controls as smoothly as possible
- Try to avoid excessive revving when starting your engine and moving away
- Use the accelerator smoothly and progressively. When appropriate, take your foot off the accelerator and allow the momentum of the vehicle to take you forward
- It's not always necessary to change up or down through each gear; try skipping gears. As soon as conditions allow, use the highest possible gear
- Ensure that your speed is appropriate to the road, traffic and weather conditions
- Plan ahead. Anticipate road traffic conditions and act in good time, rather then reacting to them at the last moment
- Hazard Awareness. Identify hazards early, allowing adequate time to react - this will result in braking and acceleration that is smooth and progressive. Maintain space around your vehicle and drive calmly
- Try switching off your engine when waiting for more then a couple of minutes in stationary traffic. Remember, whilst you are stationary with your engine running, you're doing 0 mpg.
Try it out. Make a note of your fuel economy then try our tips to see if you can improve your fuel consumption.
